Iris House: Monthly Tour

Description: Join our monthly tour of Iris House, meet our clients and learn more about the work we do. Tours are conducted the first Thursday of each month at 12:00 pm and guests are welcome to stay for a nutritious lunch with clients. Individuals or groups are welcome.

Iris House: 'Saturdays at the House’

Description: This monthly event is held to educate youth of Iris House clients and their peers on food & nutrition, cooking healthy meals, college planning, career options, financial management and other areas including psycho-drama. The launch of this event will be at Iris House, located at 7th Avenue and 137th Street. 2 – 3 Volunteers are needed to assist with the programs for that day. Future dates for this event includes September 13th.

Bottomless Closet

Location: Bottomless Closet's Offices - 545 8th Avenue, between 37th and 38th Streets
Description: Bottomless Closet collects and distributes business clothing to women seeking to enter the job force and is seeking volunteers for the next Separates Sale at Bottomless Closet. Volunteers will be assisting clients in picking out clothing and accessories in the organization's showroom. Several times a year, clients are able to redeem points that they have earned by attending the organization¹s on-going workshops for clothing and accessories. 10 Volunteers are needed.

Inwood House Family Picnic
Date: Saturday, July 26th

Location: Central Park - Great Hill (top of the hill on the West Side between 103rd to 107th Streets)
Description: High Water Women is honored to host the 3rd Annual Inwood House Family Picnic in Central Park. This annual event allows the entire Inwood House Family to enjoy a shared experience having fun in the sun. Inwood House is a nationally recognized leader and innovator in youth development, teen pregnancy prevention, and family support programs and serves nearly 5,500 young people in New York City and New Jersey each year. Committee members will decide the appropriate meeting/conference call schedule at a later date. HWW needs volunteers to assist with all aspects of running the event (set-up, games, prizes, etc ). Good Shepherd Services: Volunteers Needed for Gardening Project and Summer BBQ

Location: 337 East 17th Street, (Between 1st and 2nd Avenues)
Description: Good Shepherd Services is a leading youth development, education and family service agency that serves over 20,000 young people in NYC a year. High Water Women is looking for members to participate in a gardening project at the East 17th street residence for young women. We will be planting flowers and sprucing up the rooftop garden on Saturday, August 2nd from 11:00-2:00. The days' event will be followed by a rooftop BBQ with the residents. This is our fist event with Good Shepherds Services, so please join us in transforming their rooftop into an enjoyable supper space. 10 volunteers are needed, and we ask that everyone bring $20 to cover the cost of this project. TEAK Fellowship
Specialized Tutoring Volunteers Needed in the Following Areas:
Math, Science, English, History, and Foreign Languages

Location: The TEAK Fellowship, 16 West 22nd St, 3rd Floor, between 5th and 6th Avenues
Description: Specialized Tutoring at TEAK (STAT) is a support program aimed at addressing the individual academic challenges of Fellows in grades 9-12 through individualized tutoring. TEAK seeks volunteer tutors with expertise in math, science, English, history, or foreign languages who can support Fellows on a weekly basis, for one hour, over the course of a semester. The structure of STAT affords flexibility to tutors, allowing them to volunteer for tutoring sessions at times and locations that are convenient to them, and TEAK works to make the best matches based on the Fellows needs and the tutors availability.

Support High Water Women' Fourth Annual Back to School
Backpack Drive
Last summer High Water Women distributed over 3,000 backpacks to children in Harlem, Astoria, Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Newark, and Philadelphia.
We need your help to reach even more kids in need this year!
For children who are homeless, in foster care, or impoverished, a backpack filled with school supplies can provide the necessary motivation to attend the first day of school prepared and ready to learn, rather than feeling left out and embarrassed for lack of having what other students have. Even more important to many students, the backpacks carry with them the feeling that someone cares enough to support them in such a meaningful way. We would be so grateful if you could help us out! Count Me In Update
The Make Mine a Million $ Business program, a dynamic, national movement empowering women to grow million $ businesses, selected its newest class of awardees on June 4, 2008 at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. A standing-room-only crowd of more than 500 women from New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania witnessed as ten new women were chosen to receive growth-focused business, marketing and technology resources and mentoring as part of the Make Mine a Million $ Business award.
